Intrauterine Device (IUD) for Birth Control

Birth control can help prevent pregnancy. There are many types of birth control available.

An intrauterine device (IUD) is a very effective method of birth control. It is a small, plastic, T-shaped device that uses copper or hormones to prevent pregnancy. The doctor places the IUD into your uterus. Plastic strings tied to the end of the IUD hang down through the cervix into the vagina. Your doctor may teach you how to check the placement of your IUD by feeling the strings.

You can have an IUD inserted at any time, as long as you aren’t pregnant and you don’t have a pelvic infection. Be sure to tell your doctor about any health problems you have or medicines you take. The IUD can also be placed right after you have a baby.

Comprehensive Breast Health Screening at iHealthMD

Breast cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer among women in British Columbia. A clinical breast examination (CBE) conducted by a healthcare professional is integral to early detection and can be incorporated into routine checkups.

It’s essential to discuss with your healthcare provider the frequency of these examinations tailored to your individual health needs. At iHealthMD, our skilled doctors offer thorough clinical breast examinations, ensuring proactive monitoring and timely intervention when necessary.

While clinical examinations are crucial, mammograms offer a deeper level of detection, aiding in the early identification of abnormalities. For detailed information on screening mammograms and their significance in breast cancer prevention, visit the official BC Cancer screening website.
