FAMILY MEDICINE SPECIALIST, MD, PhD, CCFP
Dr. Mota received his medical degree from Lviv State Medical University, Ukraine in 1981, followed by residency in general surgery and further specialization in cardiovascular surgery. In 1992 he completed Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at Moscow Bakulev’s Cardiovascular Surgery Research Institute, successfully defending his PhD thesis. He worked as an assistant professor at Lviv State Medical University, and in 1997 completed an internship program in heart transplant at Silesian Center for Heart Diseases, Poland.
After immigration to Vancouver, Canada in 1999, he spent 2 years in cardiac research, and then in 2004 successfully graduated from Family Practice Residency Program at University of Saskatchewan, obtaining his certification in Canadian Board of Family Medicine.
Upon return to BC he worked as a Surgical Clinical Associate at VGH division of cardiac surgery, as well until now, as a hospitalist at multiple hospitals. He is now slowly transitioning back to office settings work while still does some hospital medicine.
He has particular expertise in chronic diseases management, coronary artery disease, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, varicose disease, sclerotherapy, minor procedures and trigger point injections.
Besides English, Dr Mota is fluent in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish.
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
In his free time Dr. Mota loves travelling, reading, and exploring gourmet cuisine with his wife, daughters and grandkids. He also enjoys great Canadian outdoors – hiking and fishing.
