EDUCATION
Dr Minika Ohioma obtained her medical degree from the University of Calabar, Nigeria in 2003. Thereafter, she completed the residency training in Family Medicine at the National Hospital Abuja, Nigeria, and bagged the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians
In 2020, Minika’s passion for Primary Care research made her enrol in the Master of Science in Family Medicine program at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, which she completed in 2022. Her research work was focused on COVID-19 and maternal health.
She has worked in multiple health care settings, including out-patient clinics, in-patient/hospitalist units, maternal and newborn/childcare, home care, urgent care, and the emergency room. She is also skilled in performing minor surgical procedures. She worked as a licensed Clinical Assistant in multiple health facilities in rural Manitoba and Winnipeg before moving to the North Shore, BC.
Dr Ohioma loves to be involved in direct patient care and enjoys caring for patients of all ages (babies, children, adolescents, adult men/women and the elderly). She is a good listener and pays attention to little details. “I believe every person is unique. I try to build relationships with my patients, understand their individual needs and work with them to develop plans to achieve their optimal state of health”.
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
She is active with community events and has been involved in preparing cooked meals for disabled older adults and the diabetic program for indigenous children. When away from work, she enjoys swimming, watching movies, and making clothes. She loves dogs, has recently developed an interest in playing lawn tennis, and she is learning to speak French.
