The people around the world have been asked to practice social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, almost all major art institution are temporary closed and the way we typically participate in the arts is changing. In-person visitations are no longer available this season.
However, we can still continue to engage culturally and artistically while exercising social distancing to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). As Pablo Picasso said: “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
Here are just a few different ways you can be engaged while staying at home.
Visit online museums:
- Glenbow Museum in Calgary launched its first “Glenbow from Home” exhibit on Wednesday. The website allows audiences to go online and virtually view exhibits inside the museum.
- London’s National Gallery provides panoramic views of the Gallery in 360° in collaboration with Google Street View.
- Tour the museum’s Great Court and discover the ancient Rosetta Stone here in British Museum of London.
- Get a close look at the works of Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, and hundreds of other French painters here in Musée d’Orsay, Paris.
- The Museu de Arte de São Paulo is Brazil’s first modern art museum. Visit here.
- the Canadian Museum of History provides an opportunity to observe a standout ceiling mural even closer than you can in person in one virtual exhibit
- Through a partnership with Google Arts & Culture, The National Ballet of Canada shows the history of The Nutcracker ballet in numerous slides and photos online, including a video explaining how a dancing horse costume is brought to life on stage.

- For a limited time, Houston’s Alley Theatre will allow you to stream their production of “1984” from the comfort of your home.
- Watch the Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) in its “Live from Home” series.
Music:
- The Seattle Symphony is organizing free live stream and broadcast via YouTube and Facebook until the orchestra can return to Benaroya Hall.
- Watch and listen to live-stream and music from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
- Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra has announced plans to release videos for viewing to enjoy while practicing social distancing.
